Mata ‘Eyes’ Ariki : ‘High Chief or God’ : MATARIKI

This upcoming 8 date tour is in celebration of Matariki, the Māori New Year and to showcase Rei’s latest album Ariki. Traveling through Aotearoa, from Tāmaki to Te Wai Pounamu, Rei can’t wait to share his waiata kanikani (dance music) and party with the people.

His last tour was for his award-winning album ‘The Bridge’. Always in mahi hard mode, Rei has dropped 3 new albums since then, played across the world, won 3 Māori music awards, earning millions of streams and radio hits since this tour… but nothing beats performing to your home country. Rei’s Matariki tour will start with local support acts, followed by Rei’s full high energy set, topped off with a DJ set featuring remixed te reo music.

His last album Ariki, a full 20 track te reo album, was his most ambitious project yet, featuring Wera Matao (written with Drax Project) and Kokomea (with Olivai Foa’i). Rei’s music was riding high on the te reo radioscope chart in 2022, taking out the #1 spot multiple times with singles from Ariki.

This time he’s taking mana wāhine Huia on the road. Huia is a groundbreaking reo artist in her own right, and is all about fusing uplifting kaupapa with her electronic te reo music. The Totara show also features Tauranga-raised Swizl Jager, who has been keeping it reo since wayyy back. The Matariki Tour promises to be the disruptor and the uplifter, as the te reo Māori heavy run of shows that Aotearoa needs right now. Let’s kanikani!
