EVERYBODY LOVES A BASSLINE; BUT THIS ONE SETS THE STANDARD

TOTARA ST is more than a venue. It’s a home for live music, creativity and community in Tauranga Moana. It is also home to Mauao Performing Arts Centre, where rangatahi come to learn, create, grow and be inspired.

This space belongs to a wider community. Treat it, and everyone within it, with the same care and respect you would want shown in your own home.

We ask everyone in our space to:

* Respect each other. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, sexual harassment and any other form of discrimination or prejudice are not welcome here.

* Respect people’s boundaries. Consent must be freely and clearly given. Never assume someone is comfortable with physical contact, sexual attention or behaviour simply because they have not said no.

* Look out for each other. If you notice someone being harassed, pressured or made uncomfortable, check in with them or alert a staff or security team member.

*If your mate is acting inappropriately, being disrespectful towards others or crossing someone’s boundaries, don’t ignore it. Step in, calmly pull them aside and hold them accountable. Looking after your mates, also means stopping them from causing harm.

* Know your limits. Being intoxicated is never an excuse for crossing someone’s boundaries, becoming aggressive or making others feel unsafe.

* Make room for others. TOTARA ST exists for artists, audiences and communities of all kinds. Help us create an environment where everyone can participate, express themselves and enjoy the music.

* Respect the space. Take care of the equipment, facilities, staff and surrounding neighbourhood. Remember that this is a place where young people learn and belong, not just somewhere we gather at night.

* Violence, sexual harm, harassment, intimidation and discriminatory abuse will not be tolerated. Anyone behaving in a way that harms or threatens the safety of others may be removed from the venue and could be refused entry in the future.

If something doesn’t feel right, whether it is happening to you or someone else, speak to any member of our bar, venue or security team. We will listen, take it seriously and work with you to determine what support or action is needed.

Creating a safer and more welcoming space is something we all contribute to. Look after yourself, look after each other, and help us keep TOTARA ST a place where music, creativity and community can continue to thrive.
